Celebrations In Canada

Canadians celebrate different events throughout the whole country. Each region, however has its own customs due to different cultural and historical roots.


Toronto is a hot spot for festivals and events. There is something for everyone here, especially during the summer months, including the Toronto International Powwow held at the Sky Dome. The Gay pride Parade which passes through the gay and lesbian district of the city downtown, and Caribana which is the annual West Indian festival. Caribana has attracted over a million people to marvel at the costumes and party along with the reggae and calypso beat parade, which has been known to last a full ten hours.

The annual Molson Indy race is on the international circuit and takes place along Toronto Lakeshore Boulevard. From cars to horses Toronto is also host to the annual Queen Plate held at Woodbine race track; one of the North American oldest horse races. This city is also a home to the Canadian National Exhibition which is the world largest and the oldest of its kind. It includes a midway of rides; agricultural, technical and multicultural displays and events, concerts, crafts, an air show and just about everything in between including fireworks.

The Shaw Festival which is held from April to October each year in Niagara on the lake, Ontario is the only festival in the world dedicated to the plays of George Bernard Shaw and his contemporaries. In Stratford many respected actors have graced the stages of the Stratford Shakespearean Festival. There are countless festivals and events of numerous types happening across the country. It is a nation that enjoys a party and has much to celebrate.
